About Me
I’m an Ashtanga Yoga practitioner and teacher based in Cork City, Ireland. My path in yoga began in 2012 when I attended some classes while dealing with anxiety, the pressure of university exams and a damaged relationship with my body. What started as a tactic for stress-relief soon evolved into a powerful practice building my physical strength and stamina, and developing my mental focus and introspection.
Yoga, especially Ashtanga, became more than just an exercise for me; it became a moving meditation, offering a unique blend of physical activity and mindfulness. Over the years, I have become deeply dedicated to Ashtanga Yoga, and am currently practicing both the Ashtanga Primary & Intermediate Series. My practice also extends beyond the mat, encompassing Pranayama, Meditation, and Strength & Mobility training.
My teaching philosophy revolves around inclusivity and adaptability; helping students build their personalised practice, tailored to their unique mental and physical needs. I believe the Mysore setting of learning is best suited for this, as it allows the time and space for student and teacher to work together and individualise the practice. I don’t believe in the dogmatic idea that a teacher “gives” a student an asana, or can stop a student for not achieving a certain physical shape. The student has as more knowledge than the teacher about their body. The teacher is present to support the student and help them build a sustainable practice. I view the Ashtanga Series as adaptable blueprints, not strict rule-based sequences.
I hold a 200-hour RYS diploma and 50-hour further training in Ashtanga Yoga with Ríonach O'Flynn. I also hold a 30-hour training in Pranayama & Yogic Anatomy with Alchemy School of Yoga. I prioritise being student ahead of being a teacher - I was a committed practitioner for 11 years before I took a single teacher training course! I regularly attend intensives, workshops and retreats with other teachers to develop my practice and further my yoga education.
While I discovered yoga I was an aspiring scientist, studying for a BSc in Astrophysics in UCC. Instead I became a Data Scientist and have worked in roles in the marketing tech industry for over a decade. This means I spend a lot of my time thinking about how people use the internet, how they consume advertising and of course social media!
When I’m not practicing or teaching (or crunching numbers!) I love travelling, reading, gaming, cooking, singing and playing the piano.
